What the title says, I'm thankful for The American Farmer.
These photographs are from Roosevelt Township, Pocahontas County, Iowa, and were taken in October. I LOVE them and I LOVE what they represent regarding the hard, relentless work of The American Farmer for all of us across our great country and beyond.
The first three photographs were taken in a soybean field; the others are of a corn field. (And, at the end is a link that tells of some Rolfe, Iowa, attractions that are near and dear to me.)
In these particular photos of Roger and Dan Allen, it's obvious the combine has uncommon exterior decor! The Busch Light skin was provided by Humes Distributing of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Anheuser-Busch. They make a point regarding the importance of Iowa corn in their products. Roger Brown of Humes Distributing said, "As a distributor of Anheuser-Busch since 1972, we couldn't be prouder to partner with Dan and Rog who grow the corn that's used to make the Busch Light we all enjoy in North-Central Iowa."
Of course, even if you don't drink beer, or you have a different beer preference (like I do since my husband home-brews), we all still depend heavily on how farmers provide for us.
Corn is used to make Ethanol, to feed livestock and fish, for a multitude of grocery and industrial products, plastics, in brine to melt ice on roadways, cardboard products ... all sorts of ways many people typically don't realize.
So, on this Thanksgiving and always, thank you so very much to The American Farmer.
In the background is the grain elevator in the town of Rolfe, Iowa.
My favorite "character" photograph, taken at the end of a long day of combining.
To see some of Roger's and Dan's projects, take a look at this blog article written by me in 2013. It features the Pocahontas County Freedom Rock and a few other landmarks all found on the same property in Rolfe. The Allens would love for you to stop and take a look at these attractions. The rocking horse isn't always outdoors on display, but usually is during warmer months.
